Samsung is a company that makes a lot of products and makes a lot of money, even if smartphone sales and revenue from handsets have fallen. The Korean giant also spends a lot of money, and it does not always work. For example, the company spends a lot of money on advertising, but sales slipped last year despite the expenditure.

Samsung is also trying to move away from not being seen as an innovator, and devices like the recent Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge are showing that. The company is also throwing money at research and development, and in fact has ploughed $13.8 billion into R&D over the last year. To put that into perspective, Apple (the world's richest and most valuable company) spends less than a third of that.

A lot of that went into developing the Galaxy S6 series, with the handset stealing the show at the MWC expo last week it turn into money well spent.
