HTC announced way back at Google's I/O event (when Android 5.0 was first announced) that it would update its One M8 and One M7 smartphones to the new platform within 90 days of its release. The company reconfirmed that commitment when Android Lollipop launched last month and it looks as though the Taiwanese giant will better its promise.Android 5.0 Lollipop started rolling out to devices on November 3rd, which means HTC has until February 3rd to stick by its self-imposed deadline. However, during a London event the company said that the HTC One range will start getting the Android 5.0 update on January 3rd, which is just two months after its launch. That bests HTC's own timeframe by a month, bringing the latest software to this year's flagship (One M8) and 2013's (One M7). HTC made a similar promise last year for Android 4.4 KitKat and actually was late on the deadline for a few days. Of course, HTC may ready the update, but unless your HTC One is unlocked you will still be at the mercy of your carrier to determine when to send out the patch.
