After a short delay it seems that HTC is finally ready to begin rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop to the One M8 Google Play Edition. Mo Versi, a company executive, confirmed on Twitter that HTC had received the necessary data approval from Google and is now pushing out the 5.0 bump for the One M8 GPE over the air (OTA).

You may remember the device was supposed to get the update late in November, but HTC delayed the roll out before delaying it again, saying the company has not received technical approval from Google. Now that has happened the device is receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop right now. The patch is landing OTA and has been available since noon on Friday, but of course if you are not seeing the update just yet you should be patient for a few days.

As this is a major new build update, we would advise you to keep your phone battery above 75% and make sure you are using Wi-Fi to pull the file.

HTC has not offered any information on the One M7 Google Play Edition, which we thought would be getting Lollipop at the same time as the M8. We imagine the M7 will follow shortly as it requires different technical approval. As for those of you rocking the full HTC versions (with the Sense Android skin) of the One M8 and M7, you will still have to wait a while longer to get a lick of the Lollipop. The Taiwanese company has promised to roll out the update within three months, which would mean around the end of January.
