Yes, Chinese companies struggle to get traction in markets outside Asia, and many of them would certainly like that to change, but the truth is many of them do well without it. There are so many people in China and Asia as a whole that a massive hit can be attained in a single market, and it seems Meizu is about to prove that with its new MX4 Pro.The handset was unveiled last month and is going to be available to buy from Chinese carriers and retailers next week. That means it has begun its pre-order window and it turns out people really want this handset with Meizu announcing that it has had 6.7 million customers register their interest in buying the MX4 Pro. It's not hard to see why as this is a handset that costs around $400 and comes with a 5.5-inch display with a 1536 x 2560 pixel resolution and a 546 ppi density, an octa-core Exynos 5430 processor, and an mTouch fingerprint sensor that?s covered by sapphire glass. However, whether that many will sell remains to be seen as the Chinese pre-order market works slightly differently to the one in Europe and North America. In those markets, if you make a pre-order you make a commitment to buy with a transaction taking place. In China, a consumer merely says that they intend to buy the device, they have no further obligation to actually do so. It is normal for the initial pre-order figure to drop when the device goes on sale, but nevertheless it seems that Meizu's new smartphone will shift millions of units regardless. The company has not offered details of an international launch, but it is listed on the company's worldwide website. If we do see it, I imagine it would be very limited and not easy to find, while that $400 price tag could go north too.
