Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus arrived in September to much fanfare and instantly began selling like proverbial hotcakes. The new devices crushed sales records through their launch window as Cupertino's year of growth continued with stellar third quarter results. Sales for the iPhone have grown year on year through each period and now one analyst is predication that this quarter will yield unbelievable numbers.Ming-Chi Kuo works for KGI and is known as one of the more accurate Apple analysts with a fairly solid strike rate. He predicts that iPhone sales will sky rocket by 82% in the fourth quarter before dropping significantly in the first quarter of 2015. Of course, before getting to the actual figures it is worth noting that Kuo?s take on things makes sense. Sales will almost certainly explode over the busy Holiday Season before declining over the quieter months early in 2015. However, it seems records will be broken for both quarters as Apple will build year on year once again. Kuo says a massive 71.5 million units over the fourth quarter, an amount that would make the iPhone easily the best selling device of 2014 just from one period. Apple had reportedly built 90 million units to be used before the end of the year, but the company would need to produce more if Kuo's prediction holds true as nearly 40 million iPhone 6 units have already been sold. Of course, it is the new device that Kuo thinks will dominate the consumer, with his prediction pointing to the 6 being more popular than the 6 Plus. He says 41.6 million iPhone 6 units will ship through Q4, followed by 15.1 million iPhone 6 Plus devices. The iPhone 5 range will remain surprisingly strong with 8.8 million 5s and 4.3 5C units selling over the holiday period. Even the aging iPhone 4S will account for 1.6 million in sales. Kuo says that the first quarter of 2015 is likely to see a 30.9% drop off in sales, but overall unit movements will still comfortably surpass the first period of 2014. There will be 49.4 million units sold altogether through the period, including 21.6 million iPhone 6 units and 10.2 million iPhone 5c units sold.
