HTC has a huge update around the corner for its 2013 One M7 smartphone with news that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be landing on the device within the next 90 days. However, before that happens the Sprint variant of the all-metal handset is getting a rather more minor bump, a mere sweeping of the boards according to the US carrier.Sprint describes the new update as a minor one that is being issued with the build number 5.05.651.2 and comes with Google security fixes. So, a minor patch then, so why is it a massive 1.5GB? Of course, some of that is the old software with enhanced security measures, but while the changes may be minor the actual file is huge. The infuriating "Smith Disabled" banner that appears upon reboot has also been removed in the update, while the flashlight app has been replaced by a camera flash app. Other than that there is nothing noticeably new, which means that the M7 is missing out on the EYE Experience for the time being. Launched two weeks ago, the EYE Experience is a new camera software suite that offers loads of features and functionality. HTC confirmed that the new software would be arriving on the One M7 eventually, but this is not the update that will deliver it. Perhaps the full release of Android 5.0 Lollipop on the handset in the coming months will also bring the EYE Experience with it. The new update is available OTA for Sprint customers rocking the HTC One M7. Alternatively, you can download the update manually from HTC's site at the source.
