Sony is finally taking the US market seriously. In the past the Japanese giant has rolled out mobile products months after they first launch in other markets. However, the company has already detailed plans for the latest Xperia Z3 to land in the US alongside the rest of the world, while the Verizon exclusive Xperia Z3v is also confirmed for launch this month. We can also add to that list Sony's latest wearable, the SmartWatch 3.At the "Demand Great" event held to launch the Xperia Z3v this week, Sony said that is newest Smartwatch would be landing in the US and would be available from Verizon. The company did not offer a specific date for the roll out, other than to say it was coming soon, while Sony also did not detail if other carriers or retailers would offer the device. I presume that companies such as Best Buy will offer the wearable, while some other carriers may pick it up eventually too. The Smartwatch 3 is one of the most underwhelming smartwatches and is going in a different design path from the premium devices like the Moto 360. Its rubberized design looks to be appealing to the fitness crowd more than fashion enthusiasts, but perhaps Sony can tap into a niche in doing so. In terms of specs, the SmartWatch 3 is normal Android Wear stuff, a 320 x 320, 4GB of built-in storage, and a quad-core 1.2GHz processor powered by a 420mAh battery. Again, nothing to set the device apart, although there are some unique software touches here. For example, Sony said there will be a Walkman app for music listening, while the SmartWatch 3 will also be able to be used as a remote control. UPDATE: Verizon has confirmed that the SmartWatch 3 will actually cost an eye watering $249.99, which is roughly the same price as the infinitely more premium Moto 360. That news comes when some retailers are slashing the similarly equipped and styled LG G Watch to around $170. It will not be cheap with Sony stating at its IFA launch event that the SmartWatch 3 will cost $229.99 at launch.
