It still amazes me that carrier exclusives are a part of any smartphone manufacturer's business model. While success have been had in the past (the iPhone and DROID for example) more often than not these days such exclusivity limits a handsets appeal and they are often poor sellers. So, it is a little puzzling why HTC has decided to make its pretty darn fantastic Desire EYE and exclusive with AT&T.Sure, Ma Bell has success with the iPhone as an exclusive, but that was years ago and times have changed. Whenever I see carrier exclusive these days I think moderate seller at best, flop at worst. Make no mistake, HTC's new smartphone is very good, sexy, high spec'd, and modern, but it is limiting itself out of the gate by tying itself to one carrier, even if that carrier happens to be the second biggest in the United States. AT&T hasn't confirmed price details yet although the company did confirm that it will also sell HTC's RE camera which the Taiwanese company said at launch would retail for $200. The Desire EYE was launched earlier this week and comes with a 13MP lens on the rear of the device, while on the front the company has matched that with another 13MP snapper. Other specs include a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, a 2,400mAh juicer and Android 4.4 KitKat. Would you consider buying the AT&T Desire EYE? In the meantime you can check out AT&T's full PR sheet below:
