The 2013 version of the Nexus 7 tablet is now receiving its Android 4.4.4 update today, a day after the factory image for the patch was released. As this is Google stock Android tablet, the build update here is the bare bones 4.4.4 package and minus the extras that OEM's put onto the bump. That means this is a tiny little package that weighs in at just 2.4MB and should be downloadable in no time at all.You may remember that this update was a quick follow up to the more extensive Android 4.4.3 roll out that came earlier in the year. Android 4.4.4 is not a direct replacement for that build but is more of a companion released to squash some bugs and fix security issues (minor ones) in the Android 4.4.3 software. Of course, as one of Google's Nexus devices the Nexus 7 is almost certain to land Android L when that new version arrives later this month. L (now thought to be called Lollipop) is due to land in October, with most reports pegging it for the 16th. The 2013 Nexus is unlikely to get Android L straight away, but it should come not long after landing. That means you will not have this Android 4.4.4 patch for long, but at this file size it is definitely worth downloading.
