Sony has announced today that a whole range of its Xperia Z devices are getting an update to Android 4.4.4, the newest release of Google's mobile OS. The Japanese giant announced the news via its official Twitter account, letting some of its older Xperia Z devices catch up to the newer ones with Android 4.4.4.

The Xperia Z range is Sony's flagship line and the devices getting the new bump are older models such as the Xperia Z, ZL, and ZR smartphones and also the Xperia Z Tablet. While Sony has confirmed this update, if you rocking any of the devices in question you will have to wait for your specific carrier to get hold of it and issue the patch. That could take more time in some regions and with some companies than others.

As for the changelog, the update comes with Android 4.4.4, the small bug fixing and security issue sorting patch for Android 4.4.3. It is a small file and comes with a few of Sony's own enhancements, which the company has detailed:

Upgrade to Android 4.4.4

Better battery performance in some background applications

Email stability & performance enhanced

General improvements to MMS, Calendar, Wi-Fi, Contacts & More

All of our latest bug fixes and enhancements
