Tablets running full Windows 8.1 have obvious advantages over their iOS and Android counterparts and we have seen them get cheaper and cheaper. No high level company has managed to do what Toshiba has, and that?s release a Win 8.1 slate that costs just $120. The Japanese company has done just that, launching the Encore Mini at IFA.This is a small 7-inch slate that runs full Windows 8.1 (so traditional desktop programs are possible) and will cost just $120. Sure, there are cheaper Windows options, but none from what we would call a grade A company. The Encore Mini has specs that suit its price point however, such as a 1,024 x 600 display, a quad-core Intel Atom Z3735G processor with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage and dual 2MP/0.3MP cameras. The device does come with a massive 1 terabyte of One Drive cloud storage for one year, while there is also a microSDXC card slot for storage expansion. Microsoft's Office 365 is also bundled with a free one year subscription available. Toshiba says it worked with Microsoft during the development of the Encore Mini to ensure Windows would scale properly to the small 7-inch screen. The slate will be launching worldwide within the next few weeks.
