Chinese juggernaut Huawei has scheduled its press event for the IFA trade show in Berlin and will take to the stage September 4th. It is thought that the company will launch its Ascend Mate 3 flagship at the show, but that may not be the actual device from the Ascend range landing in Germany.

While an Ascend Mate 3 is likely to launch this year and could indeed make an appearance at IFA, it is unlikely to be the star of the show. A new invite from Huawei reveals that a new secretive smartphone will also be launching, with the company riffing off the number 7 in said invite. A large seven adorns the blacked out background, while you may have noticed that the 7 forms around the edges of a handset.

That handset is reported to be the Ascend D7, Huawei's newest flagship and one that will arrive with some dizzying specs. This will be a phablet smartphone that will pack a massive 6-inch screen, and that panel will be of the Quad HD resolution variety. Other blockbuster hardware includes a Kirin 920 octa-core chip from Huawei's own production line. The chipset includes four Cortex A15's and four power saving Cortex A7's and by all accounts it is very fast.

Also rumoured for the handset is a second camera, a la the HTC One M8 that uses dual lenses for depth focusing and other nifty features. The D7 is expected to be a fresh assault from the Chinese brand to crack Western markets in North America and Europe. Normal Huawei launches are restricted to China and only have limited release globally, it is thought the Ascend D7 will buck that trend and will roll out worldwide.

At this point there is no information on price or availability, but we expect we will get those details during Huawei's IFA event early next month.
