Speculation may be in the air as to what iPhones Apple will launch this year, but we now know the date when we will find out about at least one of them. Cupertino has scheduled a press event that will take place on September 9th and is almost certainly to launch the iPhone 6. Of course, this will be by far the biggest smartphone launch of the year, so with just over five weeks to go the excitement is palpable. What's interesting about this date is that it is a little earlier than Apple's usual timeframe for launching the iPhone. However, there are a few advantages to this earlier date, while reports are suggesting the actual iPhone will go on sale September 19th. The Apple event will take place just after the IFA show in Germany, a place where a number of OEM's will be launching new high end smartphones. Chief among those will be Samsung, with the Korean company set to unveil the Galaxy Note 4 at IFA, a smartphone that has a lot riding on it. Apple arriving mere days after will put a major spanner in Samsung's PR and will just outright steal the Note 4's thunder. The situation for Samsung could be much worse than that if Apple resolves production issues and get the iPhone phablet ready for the event too. We told you earlier in the day that Cupertino was struggling with production issues with the rumoured 5.5-inch iPhone phablet. A lack of screen and back plate components meant a launch for the device may have to be scheduled for October instead. It was unclear if that would happen or if the phablet would drag the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 proper to a later launch with it. My sources told me Apple wanted to launch both together and was committed to doing that. So, if the company has scheduled an event for September 9th, we can only assume that the iPhone phablet will be along for the ride too. That means not only with Samsung have the new iPhone 6 stealing its media spotlight, but will also have a brand new phablet competitor to attempt to take on with the iPhone phablet. source: Apple Insider
