Handset launches and potential upcoming devices from the likes of Samsung, HTC, LG, and Apple have dominated the mobile news recently. Other brands such as Motorola and Oppo have also had their share of the limelight, but one juggernaut company has been missing. Sony has rarely featured in recent headlines, but is that because the company has no upcoming smartphones or because it is better at keeping secrets? It seems the latter is the answer because Sony does indeed have some upcoming products up its sleeve. Of course, Sony made an impact at the start of 2014 with the Xperia Z2, a stunning flagship that is a true rival to the best available. Sony will not finish there though as three new devices have been leaked today, or at least their codenames have. The codenames showed up on a number of Chinese social networks such as Weibo and carry the names Pegasus, Aries & Leo. Let the speculation begin as to what devices these codenames will end up being, but at least two of these smartphones are rumoured to be the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact. Leo will apparently be the Xperia Z3, Sony's next flagship that we know will land eventually. The Z3 could launch early next year, but Sony could be tempted to launch during the fourth quarter of 2014 in a bid to bring its core handset up to speed with Android rivals introduced this year. However, earlier reports about the Z3 suggested that the handset would pack the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 as the Z2, but the device would be thinner and would boast 3GB of RAM. My understanding of the situation from sources in Japan is that Sony will in fact place the newer Snapdragon 805 in the Z3 and not the 801. Aires is reported to be the Xperia Z3 Compact, a follow up to this year's Z1 Compact. Again Sony would be generous with specs and deck the Compact with exactly the same innards as the larger flagship. You may have noticed that if Aires is the Z3 Compact, Sony has missed a number (namely the Z2 Compact), so it seems far more possible that Aires is indeed the Z2 Compact and that Sony will keep its smaller device one generation behind the actual flagship. My source could not confirm if this is the case, but it would serve to create distinction between the core flagship device and the smaller mini one. That leaves Pegasus, a device that is shrouded in mystery because no-one knows what it is. It could be yet another Xperia Z3 variation like an Ultra phablet one, but it could also be the Xperia M3 or a new Xperia tablet. Equally it could be none of those things and Sony could be launching something new altogether. source: Know Your Mobile
