The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime maybe kind-of, sort-of exists. The phone has been rumored for months without any credible photos of it appearing online until now, and we're still putting a pinch of salt in our eyes until the announcement becomes official. While we're heard some strong rumors from typically reliable evleaks that the Galaxy F, which appears to be the real name of the S5 Prime, has a 5.3-inch Quad HD display, many of the photos that have appeared online have been questionable. A new set of images of a device that is supposedly the Galaxy F looks closer to press photos evleaks posted two weeks ago.
Looking at the images, it's clear that this device has a slimmer bezel compared to the standard Galaxy S5 that has been available since April. The top of the device also appears to have corners with more curves, which suggests this truly is something different. The back of the device has the same LED flash and heart rate sensor but the material is definitely not the perforated plastic texture of the S5. Though the back has a brush aluminum look, looks may be deceptive. The LG G3 had what appeared to be a metal body until the company later revealed that's it's really just a metallic skin. We can't be sure what kind of materials are used, despite the rumor mill's insistence that the S5 Prime is Samsung's first phone with a metal body.
Previous reports have suggested that the Galaxy F would be Samsung's answer to rival phones. It would have the aluminum body to outdo the HTC One M8 and a Quad HD (2560x1440) display to match the LG G3. Other rumored specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel camera with OIS. It would be a jerk move on Samsung's part to release a phone so soon after the Galaxy S5 that's better than its 2014 halo device in every single way, but this would be exactly what some people yet to upgrade to a new phone this year might want. That's if this turns out to be real.
