The word Prime has been one that has cropped up plenty of times in the smartphone world over the last year. It has become a word that is used by the tech press when speculating about a handset that will be a better version of one that already exists. Think of the HTC One M8 Prime and the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, two devices that are said to be in the works.

Oddly enough though, the manufacturers do not use this word and seem unlikely to call their handsets "Prime" at all. If the HTC One M8 Prime arrives it will be called the M8 Ultra, and it is a similar story with Samsung as the company will call the GS5 Prime the Galaxy F. One company seems serious about the word. According to reports, LG may finally get that damn Prime device we have been talking about to actually exist.

LG is working on its own Prime devices and the company will use the word in a different way to how it has been utilized before. LG will not build a super version of its current flagship (currently the newly launched G3) but will instead use Prime as a new line of devices set to launch in late 2014, early 2015. The products will be spruced versions of current handsets, although it is still possible that they are entirely new smartphones. The South Korean company has gone as far as trademarking several devices that will carry the Prime moniker, so we are on safe ground in thinking a number of new LG's are on the way.

The trademarked devices are the G Prime, F Prime, L Prime, and W Prime. LG already makes G, F, and L named smartphones, so could those handsets be in line to get some Prime treatment? We are most interested in seeing what the W Prime will be, with some sources suggesting it could well be a Windows Phone.
