Three of Sony's premiere products in recent memory are predictably the first to receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update, which is starting in some regions beginning today. Sony confirmed that it has started the process of updating the Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, and Xperia Z1 Compact to the latest version of Android. The phones will not be updated in all markets where they are available, but users can begin checking for updates in the next few days.
Sony also stated that the next round of KitKat updates will be for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and Xperia Tablet Z. Those devices will be upgraded at some point in the middle of the second quarter. The Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1, and Xperia M2 will be updated later this year.
Owners of Xperia products can expect performance improvements, new UI tweaks and animations, a new customizable Quick Settings and notification area, new Walkman and other media apps, and Xperia Themes.source: Sony
