AT&T has announced a new promotion aimed squarely at T-Mobile customers willing to change service providers. For a limited time, customers who jump to AT&T can receive up to $450 for each phone line migrated from T-Mobile. The deal breaks down in two parts: customers can turn in their phone and receive up to $250 in trade-in value, and then an additional $200 for switching from T-Mobile. Customers who port their phone numbers but keep their current phone are still eligible for the $200 credit.

The promotion began today and will run for an unspecified period as part of AT&T's efforts to best T-Mobile. Though AT&T has more than double the number of customers as its fourth-place rival, T-Mobile made strides last year by drastically altering its business model. AT&T emulated some of the major features T-Mobile introduced, such as removing subsidies from monthly costs and financing early upgrades. T-Mobile is expected to announce a new program that will assist customers with paying early termination fees (ETF) to switch from another network, so this promotion may be a case of AT&T trying to pre-emptively one-up T-Mobile.
