Sony has announced plans to update its PlayMemories Mobile browser app that connects Sony Wi-Fi cameras to Android or iOS device. In a related note, the company is also gearing up to improve the Cyber-Shot QX lens cameras that connect to Android and iPhone devices.
Both the QX10 and the QX100 cameras are set for firmware updates in January that should enhance the unique lens cameras. The ISO Shooting Range will be expanded up to a maximum setting of ISO 3200 to improve low-light photography. They will also add Full HD video recording of 1080p@30p MP4 movies. The QX100 will gain additional support for Shutter Priority.
As for the Play Memories app, the Android and iOS apps will soon have an embedded browser with fast viewing that should make it easier to take photos with the QX cameras and see photos that were previously taken. The app will also increase the speed at which the camera and phones connect to take photos on an iPhone, but a similar update will not arrive for Android devices until next spring.
