HTC has finished the hard part of the work necessary to update the HTC One Google Play Edition to Android 4.4 KitKat. The US division of HTC has announced that it has submitted the code necessary to update the phone, and it now awaits Google's approval. The company tweeted:
"Good news, we've delivered KitKat code to Google for HTC One GPE. Timing of push via PlayStore to be determined by Google."
Though the One GPE is technically HTC's phone, the actual update process is handled directly by Google. Google partnered with HTC to develop the phone and HTC maintains some unique features, like the ultrapixel image processing for the camera and the audio drivers for the phone. The actual process of delivering the update is handled by Google. Now that Google has the code, we should see an update released fairly soon.
As for the standard HTC One, the KitKat wait will be longer. HTC remains committed to previous plans of updating its phones within 90 days of the Android 4.4. release, which would mean all phones being updated by the end of January 2014.source: Twitter
