Finnish smartphone maker Jolla has confirmed the launch date for the first smartphones running Sailfish OS, an operating system that emerged from the ashes of MeeGo and recently announced compatibility for Android apps. Jolla also detailed how it will release its first smartphones.
Jolla will host an event in Helsinki at which 450 of the consumers who first pre-ordered its "Other Half" smartphone will be able to attend and receive their devices. Buyers who cannot attend the event will have to resolve their purchase in traditional shipping method. Finnish network operator DNA will host a pop-up shop that begins the general sales period in December, and more details about availability will follow.
The Jolla phone has already sold its inventory of limited pre-orders, and it has plans to manufacture more batches of the phone to match demand. More information about the Jolla phone specs are available here.via: Techcrunch
