IK Multimedia, best known for making audio recording accessories for Android and iOS, has announced a new product that may interest music producers and consumers alike. The new iLoud speaker is a Bluetooth stereo speaker that IK claims has "studio monitor quality on the go."
While it won't be possible to gauge those claims until actually hearing the iLoud speaker in person, it's clear that this is not the average speaker. The iLoud has a DSP processor, a bi-amped 4-driver setup, and bass as low as 50hz. The speaker is small and battery operated for the sake of portability, but it still manages to produce a high volume. IK Multimedia promises 40W RMS that is 2 to 3 times louder than comparable Bluetooth speakers.
Back to that portable size, iLoud measures 9.84 x 6.3 x 2.36in (250 x 160 x 60mm). It has a lithium-ion rechargeable battery that lasts 3 hours on its highest setting and 10 hours under standard volume levels. There's also a DC power adapter to plug into walls and an iRig input to connect a guitar and microphone to record while playing.
The iLoud Bluetooth speaker is available now for $299.99 at IKMultimedia.com and select retail outlets. It is compatible with the Apple iPhone, iPad, and Android smartphones or tablets.
