Samsung will debut its Galaxy Gear smart watch at the IFA Berlin conference next week, according to Samsung Mobile EVP Lee Young-hee. Lee is also the executive who in March confirmed Samsung's smart watch plans, and he revealed small details about the Galaxy Gear today. He told the Korea Times:
"We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept. 4. The Gear won't have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry."
Samsung could have used a flexible display for the Galaxy Gear considering that the company has invested so much into flexible OLED technology and plans to implement it in smartphones in the future, but the company opted not to use it in its smart watch. That could have been a strong differentiator between the style seen on the Pebble and the anticipated competition from Apple and LG later this year. Samsung expects to offer something distinguishable enough to be as successful in watches as it has been with Android-powered smartphones.source: Korea Times
