Google has released an update for Google Maps for iOS that completely overhauls everything from the user interface to the way that users navigate to and explore nearby locations. The biggest change is that there's now a Google Maps iPad app that displays larger maps at a fitting scale and overlays more map, navigation, or exploration details onscreen.
On the iPhone and iPad side, Google also revamped its map tiles and display to have a design similar to the Android Google Maps relaunch that debuted last week. Maps now features live traffic updates to alert users when accidents and road closures may prevent them from taking a particular path. It also adds indoor maps for select shopping malls, airports, and transit stations.
Google Maps further integrates Google's location discovery services, including restaurant ratings from Zagat's new 5-star scale. A dedicated Explore tab organizes venues according to food, entertainment, and other options, and has user reviews as well. Discounts and promotions from Google Offers are also included.
