Sony Mobile appears to be diving headfirst into the growing segment of Android phablets, phones with displays so large that they could be considered a tablet, with the upcoming Sony Xperia Z Ultra. A launch event invitation and a fresh round of leaks suggest the phone is arriving soon.
French publications have invited to a July 4 event that teases "Sony Mobile reserves a big surprise for you" in handwritten text. The phrase is at the tip of what appears to be a stylus, which suggests that Sony will soon introduce a large device to compete with the current leader of the category, the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
The invitation shows a phone that looks like the side of the Sony Xperia Z but is significantly larger based on scale, which makes sense given previous rumors. The Xperia Z Ultra is said to have a 6.44-inch 1080p display, a 2.2 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, a 64GB microSD slot, a 3,000 mAh battery, an 8-megapixel camera, and a 2.2-megapixel front camera. The phone will run Android 4.2 software and also include additional connection options like NFC, Miracast, and MHL.source: Xperia Blog, via: Android Beat
