How many apps are in the App Store? That's a question often asked on iOS and Android, and Apple CEO Tim Cook today announced that iOS users now have a staggering 900,000 choices for apps and games to put on their smartphones and tablets. Reiterating the health of the platform, Cook added that more than 375,000 apps were made specifically for the iPad.
Apple also hammered home other stats to show the strength of its platform. The company announced that it has paid more than $10 billion to developers since paid applications launched for iOS in 2008. Comparing its payouts to other platforms, Apple brags that 74 percent of revenue in mobile app purchases are for iOS, more than any other operating system combined.
Key iOS statistics include:
- 900,000 apps
- 375,000 apps targeting iPad
- 575,000 store accounts, more than any online store according to Apple
- 50 billion app downloads all time
- 6 million iOS developers, 1.5 million in last year
