AT&T is now accepting pre-orders for the BlackBerry Q10, the first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical QWERTY keyboard. AT&T customers can reserve the phone for $199.99 when purchased on a two-year agreement and expect delivery shortly after the June 18 shipping date. The BlackBerry Q10 will cost $584.99 if purchased in full off contract.
The BlackBerry Q10 represents an important release for BlackBerry and AT&T. Though the all-touchscreen BlackBerry Z10 has had sales that its creator calls favorable, it is the Q10 that many traditional BlackBerry users, known for their stringent desire to use a physical keyboard, have been waiting to buy. With its disappearing market share falling farther behind Android and even its closest competitor Windows Phone, BlackBerry could use a pick me up.
AT&T says it hopes to be a part of that recovery. SVP of Devices Jeff Bradley said:
"AT&T was the first carrier to launch BlackBerry smartphones and services in the U.S. and was the first in the U.S. to launch the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. Building on our strong BlackBerry heritage, we are excited to announce that beginning June 5 customers can pre-order the BlackBerry Q10 smartphone for $199.99. The BlackBerry Q10 extends the new BlackBerry 10 experience to customers with the physical keyboard they love and the secure platform they expect, all on the nation?s fastest 4G LTE network."source: AT&T
