Nokia and Verizon Wireless will finally pair up to deliver a high-end Windows Phone 8 smartphone instead of attracting midrange buyers. Nokia today confirmed that the Nokia Lumia 928 will go on sale at Verizon beginning May 16.

The Lumia 928 features a 4.5-inch OLED display and the same touch-sensitive technology of the Lumia 920 that makes the screen accessible even when wearing gloves in cold weather. The WXGA HD screen offers a hi-res display with 334 ppi, ClearBlack, and Sunlight Readability. The phone has a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM,32GB of internal memory, and a 2,000mAh non-removable battery.

If all the specs sounds familiar, it's because the Lumia 928 is has so much in common with the Lumia 920 that was an AT&T exclusive released six months ago. Like the 920, the Lumia 928 places an emphasis on photography. An 8.7-megapixel camera with PureView, Carl Zeiss Tessar f/2.0, and optical image stabilization are included. There's also a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for still images. The rear camera has both Xenon Flash and LED for enhanced lighting options.

Verizon will begin selling the Lumia 928 next Thursday, May 16. The phone will cost $99 after a $50 mail-in rebate, and a $25 credit to purchase Windows Phone apps is included with purchase.
