Samsung today announced the upcoming release of its biggest Android smartphone to date, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. Yes, that's Mega 6.3 as in a smartphone with a 6.3-inch display. While the Galaxy Note series has tried to blur the line between tablet and phone, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 has opted to erase it completely with a 6.3-inch HD LCD display. The phone also has a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB or 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD slot supporting up to 64GB.

The dimensions of the phone are 167.6 x 88 x 8mm (6.5 x 3.46 x 0.31in). So how easy will it be to walk around with a phone longer than a Subway sandwich? Well enough, says Samsung. The company notes that the phone is thin and light at 199g (7.02oz).

The Galaxy Mega 6.3 has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. A 3,200 mAh battery powers the device, which runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean software. It also includes most of the software features unveiled with the Samsung Galaxy S 4, including Group Play, S Translator, Samsung WatchON IR Remote control, Drama Shot, AirView, S Travel, and more.

Price and release dates for the Galaxy Mega 6.3 are not yet available. The phone will launch first in Europe and Russia beginning in May, followed by other markets later this year. Deutsche Tekelom, Orange France, Telefonica, and Vodafone have all endorsed the phone, so those carriers will be among the fist to launch the Galaxy Mega 6.3.
