Nokia has given Windows Phone 7 users a new set of photography tools previously available only on Windows Phone 8. The new Camera Extras and Cinemagraph add new shooting modes and the ability to create animated GIFs on Windows Phone 7 devices.
Windows Phone 7 users have had to be envious of Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 users because the Windows Phone 8 devices had more options when taking pictures. Nokia previously made some of those features available on the Lumia 900, but the company today announced that more features will be available to Windows Phone 7 deices. The Camera Extras features include:
- Smart Shoot, which takes multiple photos and selects the best faces for each person in the photo and removes unwanted subjects (photo bombs).
- Panorama, which combines multiple photos to create a larger panoramic image (good for landscapes or wide scenes).
- Action shot, which improves taking photos of moving subjects.
- Self-timer, which can be set to take a photo on a short, timed delay.
Cinemagraph is a new camera option. The Nokia app can create an animated gif showing an entire scene or only animating a portion of the image. For instance, users can record two children on a swing set but highlight the left side of the image so only the child on the left swing will move. Cinemagraph is compatible with the Lumia 900, 800, and 710 at the moment, but additional support for the 610 and 510 should arrive soon. All of the aforementioned Windows Phone 7 devices can access Camera Extras now.
