Switching from one smartphone to another can be a huge headache, especially when switching from an iPhone to Android or vice versa. Sony has sought to ease the transition between operating systems with the introduction of its new Xperia Transfer feature for easy switching from an iPhone to a Sony Xperia smartphone.
Xperia Transfer works through the PC Companion and Bridge for Mac applications that connects Sony Android smartphones to their desktop computers. After launching iTunes and initiating a back-up of a phone's contents, users open the PC or Mac companion and launch Xperia Transfer.
The desktop software then transfers the following data:
- Contacts
- Text messages
- Calendar appointments
- Browser bookmarks
- Notes
- Photos and videos
- Music from iTunes
Of course, Sony is somewhat overselling the simplicity of the transfer process. In my experience connecting Sony Android smartphones to a MacBook, things don't alway go smoothly, so it wouldn't surprise me to discover some information gets lost in the process. The only phones compatible with Xperia Transfer are the Xperia V, Xperia VC, Xperia TX, Xperia T, Xperia TL, Xperia Z, and Xperia ZQ.
