AT&T released the Sony Xperia TL with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich last year, but the carrier and Android manufacturer have finally gotten with the times and upgraded the device to have some sorely-needed features from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. As I noted in my Sony Xperia TL review, Sony crafted a good but flawed phone suffering from outdated software and poor battery life. AT&T has addressed the former with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

Android 4.1 improves the Walkman, Album, and Movies apps, which I actually think are the highlights of the Xperia TL. It also added new options for customization and home screen personalization, an enhanced app drawer, and a better camera app. Most beneficial of all, the update enables support for Google Now and the improved performance found in Android 4.1.

Sony has made the update available through a desktop PC or Mac download. Links and instructions to install the update are available here.
