CloudOn is most known for its tablet Android and iPad apps that enable Microsoft Office document and presentation editing, but after the company retooled its app to be compatible with the iPhone, CloudOn is now available for Android phones. The most popular way to access Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint is to build smartphone apps tailor-made for the smaller screens; however, CloudOn's approach is to transition the more familiar desktop UI and make Office fit on the smaller screen.

Apple iPhone users received a phone-friendly CloudOn update in December, and compatibility was added for a small group of Android smartphones today. Very small, actually. CloudOn for smartphones works only with the following Samsung devices: the Galaxy S III, Galaxy Nexus 4G, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, and Galaxy S II Skyrocket. While Samsung is the dominant smartphone player and the supported devices represent a large pool, it's sad to see that other Android 4.0 or higher devices are not yet supported. CloudOn says that it is considering expanding to other models that users can vote to request.

Android 4.0 smartphones that manage to be compatible with CloudOn will otherwise get the same benefits available previously to Nexus 7 users. CloudOn for Android has:
- A custom ribbon made specifically to improve navigation and formatting selection.
- A dedicated place to view revisions and notes for a specific document, and the ability to add notes that can be viewed by collaborators.
- Integration with sharing files to Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive, or email.
