An HBO Go Apple TV app isn't on the way in the immediate future, but fans of Game of Thrones and Girls got the next best thing today in an update to HBO GO. The on-demand video app has gained AirPlay support, which should enable streaming from an iPad or iPhone to an Apple TV.
At the Dive into Media conference, HBO President Eric Kessler announced that HBO Go has updated to include AirPlay for streaming from iOS to Apple TV, and the app has already updated in the App Store. AirPlay requires iOS 6 or later on an iPhone or iPad, and an Apple TV running 5.1.1 or later.
HBO GO is otherwise still the same application. It offers full episode streaming of current seasons of HBO shows, as well as select movies and special presentations. A cable subscription with HBO's premium service is required to watch the app.
