Following AT&T's announcement that it had sold a record 10 million smartphones in the closing months of 2012, Verizon Wireless announced that it activated 9.8 million smartphones during the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was Verizon's best ever, according to CEO Lowell McAdam, and the company expects to report a 2.1 million net addition of customers when it releases its official financial earnings. Like AT&T, the sales appear to be driven by the popularity of the Apple iPhone 5, as Verizon's filing with the SEC confirming the sales said that there was a "higher mix of Apple smartphones."source: ZDNet, via: The Verge
