AT&T today announced new options for customers who want to add international roaming packages to lower costs when they travel outside of the United States. The new international packages, which take effect November 16, may be more expensive than purchasing a SIM in some foreign countries, but it can be a cheaper and easier way to continue using service when traveling abroad in other places.

AT&T introduced separately sold texting, data, and calling plans. The Global Messaging 600 package can send up to 600 messages through SMS or MMS for $60 per month in more than 140 countries. It replaces the old Global Message 500 plan and drops the messaging rate to 10 cents per message.

Data Global Add-on Packages include: $30 for 120 MB, $60 for 300MB, and 800MB for $120. Subscribers to any data add-on will also be able to use up to 1GB of AT&T's new International Wi-Fi hotspots app. The Wi-Fi service will be available at select hotspots in major cities of 14 countries, though AT&T promises to expand to additional regions in 2013.
