T-Mobile today announced that it has launched its improved HSPA+ network into three new markets, which will enable customers with an unlocked Apple iPhone on T-Mobile to enjoy much faster download speeds. As part of a $4 billion investment to prepare to launch LTE service in 2013 and improve HSPA+ in select areas this year, T-Mobile has reallocated 2G spectrum for 4G usage in select areas. An unlocked iPhone 4S on it's 1900MHz spectrum can now reach speeds that are 70 percent faster than the same model iPhone on AT&T's network.
Revised HSPA+ service launched today in the Baltimore, Houston, and Washington, D.C. metro areas. Customers in those regions may notice improved voice and data coverage, as well as faster download and upload speeds on certain hardware. T-Mobile has brought similar improvements to five metro areas, the previous two being Kansas City and Las Vegas, and the fourth-place carrier has plans to reach 10 more cities soon. Here's a list of the surrounding areas that should see improved service in the new launch markets.
- Washington D.C.: Alexandria, VA; Arlington, VA; Chevy Chase, MD; Falls Church, VA; Laurel, MD; McLean, VA; and Silver Spring, MD.
- Baltimore: Glen Burnie and Towson, MD
- Houston: Cypress, Jersey Village, Humble, Kingwood, and The Woodlands.source: T-Mobile
