Sony Mobile has released a firmware update for the Xperia T and Xperia TX that adds a few key media improvements and a feature that is designed to improve the battery life on both Android 4.0-powered devices. Sony is rolling out the update in select markets now, but users can visit the software update page to get more information on how to install the new firmware on a PC or Mac.

The update adds the following features:

- Screen Mirroring through WiFi Miracast, a wireless standard that connects compatible mobile devices to compatible TV's. Anything that appears on the phone's screen - photos, videos, games, or browser - will appear on the TV.

- Extended Standby mode, a feature that offers 4 times as much standby time compared to standard levels. Sony previously detailed how it temporarily shuts down non-essential apps and calling or data traffic to increase battery life.

- HD Voice, which provides a noticeable increase in voice calling quality, has been added to the Xperia T.

- Sony Media applications have been added to both the Xperia T and Xperia TX. Sony uses its Album app that improves photo and video displays, as well as automatic slideshows; a Movies app with simple controls; and a new WALKMAN app that features mood-based playlist generation, an elegant UI, and downloadable song info and album art.
