Facebook has updated its app for Apple iOS devices by adding new Instagram-like filters. Actually, they aren't exactly new because Facebook has brought in all of the features from its standalone Facebook Camera app and merged them with its standard iPhone app. The latest version of Facebook for iOS includes the ability to apply filters, crop images, add borders, and upload multiple photos at once. These are features in Facebook's standalone Camera app that have been incorporated into Facebook for iOS.

Techcrunch notes that Apple iPhone users will also notice that Facebook's messaging feature is now easier to access. The Chat window of friends is available by swiping left to see who is online and available to speak. Friends with whom you communicate most are shown at the top of the screen, and the list of contacts and ongoing conversations are always available by swiping left.

Other new features listed for Facebook for iOS v. 5.1 include:

- Add friends you message most to the top of your Favorites
- Give real gifts to your friends using Facebook Gifts (US-only)
- When sending messages, see who's active so you and your friends know how soon to expect a reply
