Though Sony has already dashed the hopes of owners of its 2011 Xperia phones hoping for an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, the Japanese manufacturer has said which 2012 models will be updated next year. Sony has confirmed that the first phones to receive an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software update will be the Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V. All three handsets will launch in a few weeks with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but Sony promises to upgrade the devices to Android 4.1 by the first quarter of 2013. That could mean that customers wait 2 to 5 months before receiving an update.
Sony also acknowledged other phones that are expected to receive an Android 4.1 update, though a release window for those phones is less clear. Jelly Bean will be provided for the following devices at an unknown time:
- Xperia S
- Xperia acro S
- Xperia ion
- Xperia P
- Xperia go
- Xperia J
