ASUS today announced its PadFone 2, an Android 4.0 device that can be a quad-core smartphone or connect to a special dock to become a quad-core tablet. The PadFone 2 is a unique phone that can expand because of software and a dockable tablet, and ASUS has packed the device with many features to make it competitive in either format. The phone has a 4.7-inch touchscreen with a 1280x720 HD Super IPS+ display. It also has 2GB of RAM, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, and storage options ranging from 16GB to 64GB.

The PadFone ships with a 2,140 mAh battery, but use time is extended with the 5,000 mAh battery from the PadFone 2 Station, the tablet dock that can also enable calls and recharge the phone while in use. The device has a 13 megapixel camera capable of HD video recording, a 1.2 megapixel camera, and various connectivity options, including HSPA+ and LTE.
