The market for 7-inch tablets continues to expand with today's announcement that Ematic will release an Android tablet built for children. The new FunTab Pro is a child-friendly tablet running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and it has plenty of apps designed for younger users. Ematic collaborated with Zoodles to deliver an interface with large buttons, and the hardware was also designed to be childproof. The tablet has curves that fit into the small hands, and the rubber texture adds extra grip. The FunTab Pro has a 1 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and a microSD slot that supports up to 32GB. It also has a 7-inch screen with an 800x480 resolution, rear and front-facing cameras, Wi-Fi access, and an HDMI port to connect to a television. Ematic promise 8 hours of battery life.

Ematic designed the Android 4.0-based software to fit a younger audience and implement parental controls. Parents can visit Zoodles.com to see what their child does on the FunTab Pro and block content from being accessed on the device. Parents can also monitor progress in the educational materials provided by Zoodles. Children create artwork and use interactive learning tools on subjects of the parent's choosing.

Other software features include a web browser that filters out material that is not age-appropriate, and the following apps and games that come preloaded on the device: - Angry Birds
- Where's My Water?
- Cut The Rope
- Skitch
- School Assistant
- Fruit Ninja

The FunTab Pro is on sale at Walmart.com for $149.99. The device comes with interchangeable blue, pink, or red faceplates.
