Apple will update existing devices to iOS 6 on September 19th, but it has already released iTunes 10.7, the desktop media player and synchronization tool that will enable the updates. The latest version of iTunes makes some minor adjustments to help iPhone and iPad owners upgrade their devices next week, but that's not the big iTunes news announced today.
At its iPhone 5 launch event, Apple announced today that it will completely redesign the next version of iTunes. iTunes 11 will offer new library views, including expanded views when clicking on an album; an improved store with previews and history; and an improved iCloud integration that can save the last point of a movie, song, podcast, or audiobook, even when switching between devices. Apple says that the new version of iTunes should be available for download in October.
