At the launch of the Motorola DROID RAZR line of phones, Google Chairman Eric Schmidt announced that there have been more than 480 million Android devices activated to date. Android Product Manager Hugo Barra has since confirmed that Google has officially activated more than 500 million new devices. The activations count only new phones and tablets that use Google Mobile services, which means the Kindle Fire isn't included in the tally. It took just under four years for Google to activate its first 500 million devices, but the next 500 million will take considerably less time if Android's 1.3 million daily activation rate holds steady.source: Hugo Barra on Google+
