Nokia was relatively late to introduce a Windows Phone 7 handset, but it may be among the first to announce a Windows Phone 8 device. Sources tell Bloomberg that Nokia may announce multiple Windows Phone 8 devices at Nokia World, which will be held September 5 and 6 in Helsinki, Finland. The announcement is expected for early September as a way of capturing attention before the next version of the iPhone is announced September 12.
Microsoft had already confirmed that Nokia would be a launch partner when it first shared details on Windows Phone 8 in June. Considering that Microsoft expects to launch its new mobile OS platform this fall, Nokia World seems a logical time for Nokia to grab some of the early headlines ahead of the iPhone launch. The Finnish manufacturer, which has struggled since the iPhone debuted in 2007, might use the event to launch multiple Windows Phone 8 handsets set for release later this year.
