The Amazon Instant Video app for iPad has debuted in the App Store. Instant Video delivers on-demand streaming for thousands of movies and TV episodes that can be purchased or rented, and watched on multiple devices.

Amazon Instant Video has an advertised 120,000 videos, though it's unclear how many of those videos are TV episodes or movies. Regardless of the content split, there's plenty to watch in the new app. Amazon Prime members can watch Prime Instant Video at no additional cost, or they can pay to access the full video library.

The iPad app supports caching video to enable offline viewing. Amazon Instant Video can also create a Watchlist to queue videos; use Whispersync to save and resume position when switching between devices; and subscribe to a TV Season Pass to have new episodes of current TV shows automatically added the day after airing.

Though iTunes and Netflix already provide plenty of movies and shows to watch on an iPad, iPad owners will be happy to have more choices. They even have the benefit of gaining Amazon Instant Video before Android tablets other than the Kindle Fire.
