Sprint has begun updating the HTC EVO 3D to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sprint did not confirm its plans until two weeks ago, but today's update finally graduates the EVO 3D from Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform the device has used since launching in June 2011.

The upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich adds new features like Face Unlock; an improved browser app capable of desktop sync to Google Chrome; camera app upgrades; and a number of improvements to the home screen, including app folders and resizable widgets.

Android 4.0 support also increases the number of apps that are accessible to EVO 3D owners, the most notable being Google Chrome. The popular browser was previously unavailable to the EVO 3D, but Chrome and other notable apps should now be in reach.

Follow these steps to prompt a download check for the software update.

1. Ensure that your battery is at least 75 percent charged
2. Press the Menu > Settings > System updates
3. Tap HTC software update
4. Tap Check now
