Verizon Wireless has just announced the Pantech Marauder, a new 4G LTE smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
The Marauder is aimed at the first-time smartphone buyer and includes two modes of operation: the Starter Mode and the Standard Mode. Starter Mode offers a simplified experience to the first-time users, and presents four home screens with preset widgets and an easy-to-use lock screen. There is also a quick dial feature on the home screen for placing calls directly. The Standard Mode offers the traditional Android layout, with up to seven home screens and a fully customizable lock screen. The Marauder runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Pantech's custom user interface.
The phone itself is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. There is a five-row QWERTY keyboard for text input, and a 5 megapixel camera for capturing images and HD video. The Marauder's screen measures 3.8 inches in size and has WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) resolution.
Verizon Wireless will offer the Marauder for $49.99 with a new two-year contract starting on August 2.
