ZTE has taken the wraps off the Grand X LTE, a new Android smartphone headed to Asian and European markets soon. The Grand X LTE is the first ZTE smartphone to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 processor and an integrated LTE chipset.

The Snapdragon S4 found in the Grand X LTE features two cores and is clocked at 1.5GHz. Based on our experience with other devices using the same chip, the Grand X LTE should be quite the performer. ZTE didn't provide much else in the way of specs for the new phone, but it will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It also includes an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 720p-capable front camera. A 1900mAh battery provides juice for the Grand X.

ZTE says that the Grand X LTE has a "unique buttonless design resembling a mini tablet PC," but, frankly, to our eyes it looks like any other slab smartphone on the market today. Just don't go looking for capacitive keys on the Grand X, as it appears to use Android 4.0's virtual soft keys for back, home, and multitasking functions.

The Grand X LTE is due to be available in Asia and Europe in the third quarter of this year. Pricing was not announced.
