Acer has announced the Iconia Tab A700, a new member of its tablet portfolio complete with a full HD display. The 10.1-inch tablet runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a quad-core processor.

Acer's A700 isn't the first Android tablet with a 1080p display - that honor goes to the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity - but that doesn't make it any less impressive. The 10.1-inch screen features 1920 x 1200 pixels of resolution, which offers 55 percent more pixels than 1280 x 800 pixel displays. The Wi-Fi-only A700 is powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core processor and also features Dolby Mobile 3 sound with 5.1-channel surround capabilities. There is also 1GB of RAM on board and Acer claims 10.5 hours of battery life with the embedded cell.

The A700 comes with 32GB of on-board storage and has support for microSD cards up to 64GB in capacity. It has micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports along its sides and includes a 5 megapixel rear camera with autofocus. A 1 megapixel is on the front for video calling. The tablet measures 260mm x 175mm x 10.9m (10.23in x 6.89in x 0.43in) and weighs 667g (1.47lbs).

In addition to Android 4.0, the A700 also has Acer's Ring interface and apps like Polaris Office 3.5 and Acer Print. The Iconia Tab A700 is available in black or silver and can be pre-ordered from national retailers today for $449.99. Acer did not say exactly when the A700 would be on shelves.
